Smith Modern is a classic green-based tartan with shades of blue. This is one of the most common of all surnames and is scattered throughout the length and breadth of Scotland. It is recorded that for 400 years a family of Smiths were resident at Strathblane. In the Gaelic-speaking Highlands, the name is rendered as Gow.
